The New York Times describes the Tunisian-Belgian artist Ghalia Benali as “a maker of her own myths” and she is equally revered by her international fan community as a singer, composer, visual artist, writer, and actress. Blending different styles, connecting cultures, reviving the old, and rooting the new are natural outcomes of the life of an artist born in Brussels and raised in southern Tunisia.
With her current project Arak (I See You), she celebrates human connection through music and poetry. For Ghalia Benali, poets are the true chroniclers of human history, capturing emotions, trauma, and memory while expressing universal human experiences.
In her music, Ghalia Benali challenges genres while remaining deeply rooted in Arab culture. Collaborating with musicians from diverse backgrounds, she weaves vibrant soundscapes that align differences, creating a shared language – one of humanity, connection, and beauty.
